MODULE 4.2 Who is eligible to participate in water baptism?

This is another important question. According to the teachings the apostles received from Jesus, the only person who can be baptized in water is the person who has God’s Holy Spirit. If we fail to understand this, water baptism will simply be a ritual or human ceremony with no spiritual importance in the eyes of God.

Let’s read, trust, and obey the following passages to understand why only people who have the Holy Spirit can be baptized in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Here God says through the apostle Peter who is eligible to be baptized in water in Acts 10:44-48:

“While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared, “Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.”

Let’s look at Peter’s question:

Can anyone withhold water for baptizing people who have received the Holy Spirit? The answer is no. Then Peter commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. You can be baptized in water if you have already received the Holy Spirit. I will explain later how you can receive God’s Holy Spirit.
