MODULE 2.3 Jesus and his disciples went through the baptismal process.

Jesus witnessed the obedience of his disciples while he was with them on earth because they baptized in the water his disciples, but Jesus himself did not baptize anyone in water. Some of John the Baptist’s disciples taught Jesus baptized his followers in the water (John 3:26) because they wanted to stir up division between Jesus and John the Baptist, but John the Baptist being controlled by God’s Holy Spirit corrected their spiritual misunderstanding. Read John 3:22-36 to understand the context and read John 4:1-3 to see that Jesus did not baptize anyone in water. After Jesus ascended to the kingdom of heavens, his disciples continued to baptize in the water the followers of Jesus as revealed in book of Acts and other passages in the New Testament.

To fulfill the prophecies, Jesus went through with his water baptism as well. You can gain some context by reading the following passages: Luke 3:21–23, Isaiah 61, and John 1:29–34. On the other hand, his followers were baptized in the water not to receive the Holy Spirit like Jesus did, but rather because they had already received the Holy Spirit, which you will understand later as you learn more information in the following section of this presentation. In addition, you or a disciple of Jesus gets baptized in the water to imitate him because he got baptized in water, and to obey him since he is the one who asked them to get baptized in the first place. The act of obeying Jesus by being baptized in the water is called baptism. According to Matthew 28:18-19, Jesus gave the command to his apostles to baptize people by the authority of the Godhead while they were in the process of creating disciples in his name. Jesus gave this command to his apostles. Therefore, people who claim to follow Jesus should get baptized because they love Jesus. People who adore Jesus are also people who obey what he says. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments,” John 14:15-17 says. And I will ask the Father, who will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
